Additional Information

The Site Safety Manager Scheme (SMSTS) course does NOT lead to a managers CSCS card

For this a suitable S/NVQ at the correct level must be held and the CSCS Managers and Professionals test must have been passed within the previous 2 years

CITB Grant may be available to eligible companies

Course Aims

To give and improve the Health & Safety knowledge required for effective site management.

Course Summary

• Clearly state and articulate own duties and responsibilities for health and safety management
• Recognise and evaluate the usefulness of national and company accident statistics in the management of health and safety at work
• Demonstrate an understanding of the roles, duties and responsibilities of others involved in the construction process, including the enforcement agencies, for      ensuring health and safety is successfully managed in the workplace
• Communicating the health and safety policy clearly to employees, detailing the responsibilities of each person for health and safety in the workplace
• Managing the health and safety of other contractors, their plant and equipment under site conditions through the development of safe systems of work.
• Describe and use the risk assessment process (five steps to risk assessment)
• Develop adequate risk control measures (safe systems of work)
• Communicate the systems of work
• Select a suitable means of monitoring the health and safety performance of employees.
• The importance of comprehensible information for the effective management of health and safety
• The requirement to identify an effective training strategy meeting the needs of a peripatetic workforce
• Being able to demonstrate an understanding of employees’ attitudes and abilities when undertaking training or being given instructions.
• By being part of the syndicate management team, demonstrate by communicating to other team members their ideas and safe systems of work for the core        exercise
• Demonstrate an understanding of the course content by being involved in the general course review and discussion of the outcome of the syndicate work with    other candidates
